The aim of this project is to evaluate the feasibility of using Short Sea Shipping in the different freight distribution strategies of the main logistic companies of the Spanish international trade, identifying what cases SSS can be applied to and how can it be applied, and defining the possible variants of SSS as regards the current most widespread model (regular services by ro-ro port-to-port) that could be implemented.

Services provided:

  • Modeling of costs related to the operation of a regular line of Short Sea Shipping and sensitivity analysis.
  • Modeling of social costs for different operation strategies of a distribution chain from the carrier’s point of view, focusing on those using a Short Sea Shipping line.
  • Proposal of different distribution strategies and their adaptation to the characteristics of different industrial sectors.
  • Proposal of the steps to be followed by Shipping companies, logistic operators and/or public administrations in order to improve Short Sea Shipping competitiveness in the context of the distribution chains.
