Leif Thorson – Manager of CENIT
Leif Thorson is an Industrial Engineer from the Technical University of Catalonia, with a postgraduate in Transit and Road Safety Management. In January 2007 he became an assistant lecturer at the Transport and Territory Infrastructure Department at the UPC and he also lectures at the official Master in Logistics, Transport and Mobility. He is currently the Manager of CENIT and as such he has played an important role to make of CENIT a reference center in transportation research at a local, national and international level. He joined CENIT in September 2003 and here he has promoted the organization of seminars and courses on transportation. He had previously substantiated his career in the field of transport as director of his own consultancy for 12 years and at the Catalan Transit Service (SCT) of the Department of Internal Affairs at the Generalitat of Catalonia, as head of European projects developing the following programmes and projects: implementation of telematic systems in the Mediterranean area, (SERTI and MIP 2001-2006), intelligent speed management (MASTER and PROSPER), road video surveillance (VERA), programme for the evaluation of road safety for European Roads (EuroRAP). In assuming the responsibilities of transit and road safety as head of technological matters, he was in charge of the development of computerised transit information systems, the system of penalisation, the system for accidents in transit, the new implementation of the control centre, the mobility portal, the WAP service, information systems (Datawarehouse), SIG (Geographic Information System), telecommunications and management consultancy.
